Reusable Containers for ‘Ag Against Hunger’ by IFCO
Ag Against Hunger is an organization that was started to ensure that people in need were provided with nourishing, fresh surplus from local fields. Ag is a link between local farmers and programs aimed at providing food assistance. The food banks and agencies that receive food through Ag Against Hunger hand over that food to the needy at no charge.
IFCO Systems decided to donate brand new, reusable plastic containers to Ag Against Hunger in support of their tremendous efforts. The reusable containers will be used to carry fruit and vegetable surplus donated by the farmers in Salinas, California to food banks in different parts of California and five other Western states. The warehouse cooler owned by the organization will also be used for the same purpose.
The President and General Manager of IFCO – Fred Heptinstall stated that IFCO was pleased to support Ag Against Hunger in their valuable efforts. Had it not been for the hard work of this organization, the surplus food would have probably ended up being disposed with other waste products. He also mentioned that the use of the reusable plastic containers would surely enhance the efficiency of the supply chain and the quality of the food delivered to the people in need, without having a negative impact on the environment.
Colby Pereira, the Board President with Ag Against Hunger stated that the important eco-friendly donation made by IFCO was truly appreciated. The containers would go a long way in helping them achieve their goals as an organization that was focused on preventing wastage of food, especially when there were so many people who were in need of food.
IFCO Replacing Plastic Custom Bags With Reusable Containers
Replacing plastic custom bags with reusable containers has many benefits. Containers are more durable than bags and they minimize the chances of wastage caused by spills. In addition, they can be sealed well and thus, the food items stored in them remain fresh for a longer period of time.
Containers also make it easier to store or transport goods. They also prove to be economical in the long run since they lower recurrent packaging costs. In addition to these benefits, using reusable containers also helps to cut down the production of waste and thereby has a positive impact on the environment.
