The New Drive in San Francisco
Officials in the city of San Francisco are thinking about a regulation that would call for the owners of revamped and new buildings with water fountains to fix bottle-filling taps. The law is fashioned so that thirsty people will refill water containers instead of opting for another plastic bottle of mineral water.
The President of the Board of Supervisors, David Chiu stated that this move is the right step towards helping San Franciscans get rid of their bad habit of using plastic water bottles that are very harmful to the environment. It will encourage them to use reusable water containers.
The bottle-filling taps are already present at the San Francisco International Airport and at various parks and schools in the city. These taps are installed behind a regular drinking fountain’s faucet and dispense chilled water. There is still a lot of speculation going on about whether the ordinance is practical or not. And it will probably be a while before it is implemented.
Seed Paper and Reusable Bags in San Francisco
San Francisco is the first city in the whole of America to ban plastic bags. So advocates of environmental protection are hoping the city is also the first to cut down its use of plastic water bottles by getting people to use reusable water bottles more often. There have been attempts to get the plastic bag ban repealed but nothing has seen success just yet.
The residents of the city have taken to using reusable bags and seed paper bags for shopping. A large number of grocery stores even sell these bags to help those who forget to carry their own bags. Numerous eco-friendly shops around the city sell reusable bags in a wide range of designs and colors, making the experience more enjoyable for shoppers.
Plastic bag bans have drastically increased the sale of reusable bags. Staff across all major stores in the city helps spreading awareness about the care and maintenance of these bags. Washing reusable bags is vital as many people tend to neglect these bags and just use them indefinitely.
Segregating your groceries and ensuring you use different bags for different kinds of items is the best way to ensure hygiene.
