Walnut Creek Promotes Custom Printed Cloth Bags

Apr 24, 2013
The city council of Walnut Creek is expected to propagate a statewide ban on the usage of plastic bags. However, all the members of the council are not convinced with this decision, and some of them have expressed their concerns with regard to it as well. According to Justin Wedel, a Councilman, supporting a statewide ban will lower the control of the Walnut Creek city council on the issue. So he feels that the council members should reconsider their decision on the statewide ban. The Debate on the Custom Printed Cloth Bags According to Councilman Wedel, the city council should focus on formulating policies with regard to the city, and not support statewide bans. Wedel feels that state policies will not be able to address the issues specific to their city. He feels the city council should formulate its own plastic bag policy, instead of supporting the statewide ban. Majority of the members from the city council believe that the city should support the statewide ban. The Need to Consider Custom Printed Cloth Bags over Plastic Bags The city council in Walnut Creek discussed if they should support the statewide ban or oppose it, as the council has to send a letter of confirmation to the state authorities. The statewide bill that has been proposed by the state government says that plastic bags should be banned from convenience stores, supermarkets, and even drug stores. The state wants to implement this ban by the end of 2015, and at present they are gathering support from the cities and counties with the state. According to the Walnut Creek city council, this ban will benefit their city as plastic bag disposal is an issue of concern for the city administration officials. The plastic bag waste that is collected within the city is transported to the landfills. However, a significant portion of this waste is thrown into the drainage system of the city, and the bay. The city officials have been trying to reduce plastic bag waste, and they have been promoting custom printed cloth bags among the residents. But the council feels that the city is affected by the waste from its surrounding regions as well. According to Kristina Lawson, a Councilwoman, plastic bags from neighboring regions pollute the waste stream of the city as well. So supporting the statewide ban would benefit the city more, as its neighboring cities will be forced to ban plastic bags in their premises as well. Source

During the meeting, the council members came to the conclusion that during the time period of this campaign, all the merchants and retail owners in the region will promote reusable bags among the residents. The officials from the commission feel that if the merchants support the campaign, it will have a greater impact on the residents of the region. Mayor John Van Keuren agrees with the officials from the commission, and this is the primary reason as to why he has included local merchants in the campaign. GREC Promoting Custom Made Shopping Bags in the Borough This is not the first time that GREC is organizing an event to promote the use of reusable bags. The commission organized a similar event in the month of November, 2011. During that campaign, the commission stressed on the negative impacts of plastic bags and discussed the effect that these have on the landfills. During this event, the local merchants within the borough distributed close to 2,500 Glen Rock reusable bags among the residents. The first 2000 residents who visited the stores were offered these bags free of cost, while the others had to pay $25 to obtain the bag from the merchants. The Latest Custom Made Shopping Bags Campaign Organized by GREC In the latest reusable bag campaign, GREC will not distribute reusable totes among the residents. But the officials from the commission will put up promotional posters in all the stores in the borough. This campaign will encourage the residents to bring their own reusable bags while shopping, and it will also encourage the kids to use eco-friendly products. The commission is going to organize the Go Green for Kids program on Earth Day, where school children will be taught the benefits of using recycled materials and reused paper bags. Source

A Unique Organic Brewery Established by Davidson

Apr 12, 2013
Nick Davidson had dreamt of making a brewery with a difference, and now he can claim to have fulfilled his dream. Since so many industries are still causing significant damage to the environment in the process of manufacturing their products, Davidson thought he would do his bit by building an environment-friendly brewery. The Features of the Organic Brewery Nick Davidson is a man who prefers to do his bit for the environment, both at home and at work. So, when he planned to start a brewery, he planned on one that would suit not only the beer lovers, but also the environment. New developments in the brewing methods have enabled him to fulfill his plan. He and his staff were looking for brewing technology that was just starting to emerge, and that would not tax the environment too much. They finally found some eco friendly promotional items that enabled them to reach their aim of being eco friendly. They use a High Efficiency Brewing System, though these are normally used by larger breweries. This system uses a mash filter, which is the main thing that helps them to be eco friendly, because it conserves a lot of energy and water. According to Davidson, larger breweries use this technique because it helps them use less water, energy, and grain. Apart from that, the grain that is used in the process can later be used to feed livestock in nearby farms. The brewery industry doesn't see too much of technological innovation, but the introduction of the mash filter has changed a lot of things recently. Tin Man Brewing Co. Organic Brewery Promotes Eco Friendly Promotional Items Nick Davidson's organic brewery, Tin Man Brewing Co., has not stopped at just revolutionizing the process of producing beer. It also uses eco friendly promotional items for packing its beer, and aims to make the entire packaging environment-friendly. They don't use glass bottles, but aluminum cans to sell the beer in. This not only has the advantage of keeping light and air out, which preserves the beer's taste, but the cans can also be repeatedly recycled. Also, instead of packing the beer in traditional kegs, they are using a system called bag-in-the-box, which uses recyclable cardboard boxes. The customers of this company, as well as the staff, have taken this whole eco friendly process quite positively. They are not yet using it to promote their beer, but patrons who know about this initiative appreciate it fully. According to Davidson, his company will keep finding out more ways to be eco friendly while continuing to produce quality beer. Source

Cheap Totes Wholesale in Breckenridge According to the officials from the town, the town council of Breckenridge is currently considering whether or not they should prohibit the usage of plastic and paper bags within the region by charging a fee on their usage. If this rule is passed by the town council, the residents in the region will have to pay a sum of 10 cents in order to purchase a plastic or paper bag from the store owners. The revenue that will be collected from this system will be distributed equally among the retailers and the town council of Breckenridge. The town officials are hoping that the residents will support the fee system, nonetheless, they stated that they will consider all the residents opinions in a fair manner. The Advantages of Using Cheap Totes Wholesale Even though the town council is going to acknowledge the residents' opinion on this matter, they will most likely implement the fee system on the usage of plastic and paper bags. This is because cheap totes wholesale are eco-friendly in nature and they can be disposed easily. Also, with the increase in the number of reusable bags in the region, the quantity of plastic bags in the town's landfill will reduce. According to experts, plastic bags are a major concern for the town as they degrade the condition of the landfill, and they also have derogatory impacts on the water system within the town. So the town council wants to promote reusable bags among the residents. Since other counties have benefited from plastic bags bans, the town council feels that this fee system will benefit Breckenridge as well. Source

Lions Club Recycles Old Eyeglasses

Apr 2, 2013
The Lions Club of Johnson City has made a thoughtful gesture and decided to salvage used spectacles. They are of the view that donating used and unwanted spectacles or sunglasses can help people in those developing countries where eye checkup is too expensive. An Eco-Friendly Old Eyeglasses Campaign by Lions Club Johnson City is witnessing the kind gesture that the city's Lions Club has decided to undertake. Keeping in mind the thousands of people in the developing countries who are deprived of eye care, the members of the Lions Club are collecting all the old eyeglasses and sunglasses, whether prescribed or non-prescribed. They have joined together in a worldwide movement that has extended its reach to thousands of people across the globe. They have considered the countries where there are hardly any proper eye doctors, and eye checkups can cost a fortune. The RegionalEyeglassRecyclingCenter located in Roanoke, Virginia is responsible for cleaning, sorting, and packaging the used eyeglasses. There are 17 such centers in the world. The Lions Club of Johnson City consider themselves to be lucky to have a center so close to them. Groups of Lions from all across East Tennessee volunteer to participate in the eyeglasses recycling work and visit the Roanoke center twice a year. The Lions say that, last autumn, they had about 4000 pairs of glasses to take to Roanoke, and they are expecting similar numbers in April, 2013 too. But for that, the people of Johnson City really need to scour all their drawers and dressers to find as many unused glasses as possible and donate them to the Lions. The Lions have placed collection boxes with the name “Lions Recycle for Sight” at strategic collection points. All they need is for people to drop their unused glasses into these boxes. The Importance of Recycling Eco-Friendly Promotional Items and Old Eyeglasses Eco friendly promotional items are those that have either been recycled or can be recycled, or those that are biodegradable. Using such items and recycling them whenever possible is not only good for the environment, but also has some personal benefits for everyone. For example, these items are free of the toxins that the non eco-friendly items have. They can be reused and so they save the money spent on buying disposable items. Eco-friendly electronic goods also save on your bills since they use less amount of power. If you are not up to recycling much, then using eco-friendly items can be the right decision taken by you.
