Non-Woven Shopping Bags - Smart Business Sense
Oct 6, 2013
Ever notice how some stores just have the best shopping bags. If you are carrying home a bag from Cartier, Harley-Davidson, Nike, or Victoria's Secret, the brand's personality is reflected on to you. Somehow you become more feminine, masculine, glamorous, or good-looking. Now I look to see if shopping bags are also demonstrating environmental responsibility. For businesses making that effort, I am impressed. I want environmental consciousness reflected on to me. Non-woven shopping bags are important to the environment for the following reasons:
1. Made from reusable and 100% recyclable polypropylene plastic
2. Low greenhouse gas emission levels in their production
3. Minimal use of oil and water
4. Lowers the buildup of plastic waste in landfills
As a business owner, switching your brand shopping bag is a huge marketing decision involving both marketing costs and the importance of it as an advertising medium. Fortunately, non woven shopping bags are cost effective. They also allow you to customize and display your brand and slogan brightly using single or multiple color designs. The most important reason to switch to non-woven shopping bags is the environmental factor because our world deserves to be treated better. Some little known facts about plastic bags include:
1. They take 15 – 1000 years to decompose
2. Most end up in the ocean, landfills, or other environmental locations as only 1% of plastic bags are recycled in the United States
3. They are responsible for the deaths of millions of birds and thousands of sea animals every year
4. Twelve million barrels of oil are required to manufacture the 100 billion plastic bags used yearly in the United States
There are some great eco-friendly non-woven shopping bags that businesses can use to get their name out there at the grocery store, at schools, or just walking down the street. Small and large reusable grocery bags are one option that businesses have that customers will use over and over again. They are available as drawstring backpacks, book totes, and t-shirt bags.
Some consumers still choose affordability over environmental friendly but even they have been found to express favorable responses towards businesses making efforts to go green. Businesses that are highlighting their efforts to be eco-friendly can increase the favor of their own like-minded customers and other consumers going about their daily activities who take note of your business brand advertised on non-woven shopping bags. Non-woven shopping bags are a strong marketing tool that businesses can use to advertise their name and advertise their efforts of going green.
A Simple Switch From Plastic To Reusable Can Make a Big Impact on The Environment.
Oct 5, 2013

One of those little things is to stop using disposable plastic bags, and make a simple switch to a custom reusable shopping bag. If one person makes the switch to reusable bags hundreds of plastic bags will not be used. Disposable plastic bags litter our roadsides, rivers, and oceans. They collect in houses, in cabinets and drawers. When they do make it to the landfills it takes them thousands of years to degrade because they are made of non biodegradable materials. When they finally do rot away they release chemicals that are harmful to the environment. It seems the simplest way for a single person to begin to help the environment would be for them to stop the use of plastic bags. A business that passes out their own branded reusable bags will make a tremendous impact on the environment and spread their logo. Switching to a custom reusable shopping bag is a simple step to take that will have a large impact on the world.

People Recycling but Businesses Not Doing the Same
Oct 4, 2013
According to a report from sungazette.com datelined September 25, 2013, people and households are doing comparatively more recycling this year as compared to the last. However, the same is not true for businesses. In other words, businesses have done less recycling this year compared to their recycling contribution last year.
Residential People Recycling Increasing but Major Downfall in Commercial Recycling
According to Jason Yorks, Recovery Manager, who reported the recycling data to the commissioners, the 2012 calendar year witnessed comparatively fewer tons of recycled waste from businesses. According to Yorks, 2418 tons was the difference in recycling by the businesses in 2012 compared to 2011. The total recycling by businesses was 10,720 tons in 2012, while the same was 13,055 in 2011.
The residential sector, on the other hand, had a better recycling track record with 83 tons more recycling in the current year in comparison to the last. In other words, there are more people recycling from last year to this year.
There could be a number of reasons for the downslide in recycling trends among businesses, the exact reason for the downward trend in recycling among businesses is difficult to pin point. Under 101 Act, companies are under a mandate to report the waste they are recycling. In other words, household businesses can be held accountable, which could be a possible reason but not the sole reason,
Landfill officials from each county send to businesses forms, requiring them to report the recycling tonnage made by them. Not all businesses, however, respond which means some businesses go unaccounted because officials track them for lack of resources.
While the enforcement is complex, county officials strive to track down as many businesses as possible, according to Yorks.
Eco-Friendly Promotional Items Help Create Awareness About People Recycling
Recycling is a critical activity that must be undertaken by everyone including businesses, families, households, and individuals. Eco-friendly promotional items go a long way in the creation of awareness. Eco-friendly items are either reusable items or items that do not pollute the environment.
While the waste damaging to the environment is created by most of us, businesses are more responsible for creating land, water, air and other forms of environmental pollution. So, a sound ethical business policy requires them not just to minimize pollutants, but to go a step beyond by undertaking recycling activities.

Those Darn Reusable Bags!
Oct 3, 2013
I am a cashier at a major retail chain store. I have to admit, those darn reusable bags do not make my job any easier. It is hard enough to read a customer's mind and bag their items the way I think the customer wants them. Add their own giant bags in the mix, and it's almost impossible to get it right. I swear I have heard, "I want it all in one bag because they hold a lot, but don't make it too heavy for me to carry." Huh? Is that humanly possible? Sometimes I see a customer down the line with a handful of reusable shopping bags, and I cringe.
Custom Reusable Bags Eco-Friendly in Style, I Know There Is an Interesting Story Behind It
Sometimes those custom recycled bags eco-friendly style are so interesting, or have such a memorable name or logo on them, that it has other customers in my line talking about them too. Sometimes my entire line ends up talking about a particular company or event another customer has attended!
One woman I helped recently had put her family reunion picture on her custom printed recycled bags. She had such a wonderful time reminiscing about the reunion, that we talked about it the whole time I rang her groceries up. We laughed and joked about her little anecdotes. The customer behind her got involved in the storytelling as well. It was all good fun. She actually did not want to leave when she had paid and we were all finished!
So I guess in short, these recycled bags are just a little bit more work for your cashier at the grocery store, but they are great for the environment. And oh, the stories I have heard! If I see you in my line someday with one of them, don't be surprised if I ask you all about that interesting bag you've got there.
Will Plastic Bag Ban in Thurston County Promote Custom Reusable Shopping Bags
Oct 3, 2013
The Board of Commissioners of Thurston County recently voted unanimously on a ban that prohibits the use of thin, one-time use plastic bags in the county. This ban will be applicable in all the unincorporated areas since July 1. The Commissioners approved the very same plastic bag ban which was recently passed by Tumwater City Council. Olympia is also projected to consider this very ban soon.
Thurston County Welcomes the Plastic Bag Ban
This new ban in Thurston County will be applicable on all the retailers in the region. But it will mostly impact the supermarkets. Once this ban gets implemented, customers will be required to get their custom reusable shopping bags with them while shopping. In case they don't get it, they can use the paper bags provided by the stores. But they will have to pay 5 cents for every paper bag they use.
However, there are a few exceptions under this ban. Thin plastic bags that are used for handing out meat will be exempt under this ban. Also the thicker plastic bags provided by departmental stores will also be unaffected by this ban. Dog litter bags, newspaper bags as well as dry cleaning bags will also be exempt.
Most of the residents who were a part of this public hearing were in support of this ban. There were just two members in the opposition. This made it clear that people are aware of the problems created by plastic bags and are willing to do their bit in saving the environment. Mary Wilkinson from Olympia said that this ordinance is one of the best written solutions available to tackle the problem caused by plastic bags.
Holly Chisa, Northwest Grocery Association representative, said that her group too supports the ban. She also mentioned that in the past her group has tried many things to make people stop using plastic bags. She and her group tried options like signs, recycle bans, notes and so on but nothing seemed to work. But this ordinance looks promising.
Residents Support Plastic Bag Ban by Using Custom Reusable Shopping Bags
The residents of the county are also looking forward to the ban given the way it will help in reducing plastic bag litter. Most of them feel that it is not a big thing to do as all they have to do is take their custom reusable shopping bags while they are out for shopping. This small habit can help in making Thurston County much cleaner.

Companies and Consumers Crave Custom Recycled Tote Bags
Oct 2, 2013
Companies and consumers alike are becoming more environmentally conscious, and they are always looking for innovative and trendy ways to eliminate wasteful and harmful products. Companies and other groups seeking to promote their green image and brand will be well served by custom recycled tote bags.
Consumers want products that are as eco-friendly as possible. A recycled bag that can eliminate the need for a plastic grocery store bag is a great answer. Traditional plastic grocery store bags wreak havoc on the environment from start to finish. They produce toxic waste during the manufacturing process, and they take decades to break down once discarded. As they are breaking down, they release harmful fumes into the air and block waterways. When they do finally breakdown, the chemicals that they were made from still are in the environment. The recycled tote bag is as green as it gets - they are made from recycled water bottles and other landfill clogging waste. So not only can the consumer prevent more of the traditional plastic grocery bags from ended up in the landfill, they can staunch the flow of other plastics into the garbage dump as well.
In some cases, consumers simply are self-motivated to go green and reach for a reusable bag. In other cases, such as in Los Angeles and Toronto, the traditional plastic grocery shopping bag has been banned. A tote bag is no longer a choice, but a must, and it would seem that other municipalities are poised to follow suit. By a company providing a consumer with its custom designed bag, the consumer has an opportunity to show their brand loyalty and commitment to the environment.
Custom recycled tote bags provide an excellent advertising opportunity. It is a moving billboard for your company's commitment to sustainability. The bags come in a variety of colors, sizes and materials, and they can be customized to best showcase your company's logo. In addition, the bags themselves can be recycled if need be and are manufactured without producing any toxic greenhouse gases. Each bag is built to withstand up to two years of wear and tear.
Two Couples who Promoted Sustainable Lifestyle in Two Different Ways
Oct 2, 2013
Most of the people these days are aware of their responsibilities and duties towards the environment. But it acts as an inspiration when some people go out of their way to make a difference. John Verbeten along with his wife Pam Murphy plus Quintin Bendixen with her husband Jamie Ferschinger are doing exactly this. Both these couples have adopted an organic lifestyle and set an example for everyone.
Their Journey Towards Sustainable Lifestyle
John and Pam have been practicing this green lifestyle in a rural setting. They got into this way of living when Pam took the initiative to purchase a property in Door County a decade ago. From here began their quest towards food sustainability which has grown into several acres of fruit and vegetable plantation. The couple did not just stop at that. They even own a farm which houses many animals and bees.
Though John is a wine representative and has embraced this change in their living, Pam is the one who actively looks after the farm and the animals. She said that she first turned the farm into a vegetable garden and after five years brought in the animals. With organic fruits, vegetables, nuts, meat, eggs, and milk readily available to them, they don't excessively rely on the market for their food supplies anymore.
A somewhat similar approach has been adopted by another young couple in Bay View. Quintin and Jamie too have adopted a sustainable lifestyle, but they did not give up on their city life for this. They have two small plots in their backyard garden where they produce organic vegetables and fruits. Jamie said that both he and his wife had learned gardening so it did not get difficult for them to look after their small farm. Apart from being a hobby, looking after the farm also help them in getting their yearly agricultural supplies.
Live a Sustainable Lifestyle With Small Steps Like Using Wholesale Reusable Bags
Both these couples understand that it is not possible for everyone to invest so much of time and money into embracing a sustainable lifestyle. But they suggest that people can help by adopting small habits like using wholesale reusable bags, walking to the stores, using eco friendly products, and so on. Collectively, these habits can come a long way in saving the environment and making the planet a much safer as well as greener place to live.
